Reports of Attack / Open Borders Investigation Team Report
Following published reports of an alleged attack on an out-worlder at the Dragon's Egg Docks, a full investigation of the alleged attack was instituted by Open Borders officials. Full access to all Port records was given to the investigators. The findings show that:
1. The alleged victim, a Scientist proportedly en route from Botany Bay, did not actually visit Dragons Egg.
Thus, reports of the attack are unfounded, and no further investigation is necessary.
Dragon's Egg continues be allowed to participate in the Open Borders Prorgam.
Local spokesperson Kia Marrah, speaking on behalf of BlueSun Corporation was one of several business owners who pressed for a full and complete investigation as soon word of the alleged violent attack reached the Colony. "Our employees come from all walks of life, and we would not want to be here if there was an implicit or explicit policy of violence toward people who come to do business with us. We are not sure why anyone would file a false report, but facts are facts - most of our locals welcome all the newcomers. If they didn't we wouldn't have located our Headquarters here. Business is Business".Alliance Liaison Bethany Lionheart concurred. "We withdrew our watchers months ago, when Dragon's Egg opened up for trade with outsiders. We would not have done that if we had any fear there would be violence against other Citizens. Our scans show the alleged victim was not even here. No local reports were filed. No one witnessed any attacks. We aren't sure why the report even went to the News offices.". According to Ms. Lionheart, the local Dockmaster has provided all of the landing and departing information to both the Alliance and the OPB as requested, and while many ships have come and gone, none of them brought an offworld scientist. "We see this sort of false report from time to time", Lionheart stated. "If we had any concerns, we'd send someone to talk to the alleged victim, but as he did not actually visit Dragons Egg, that does not seem to be a very wise use of our resources."
The Dockmaster working during the time of the purported attack agreed to talk to us under condition we print his statement in full. "I run a clean Dock. I don't know why anyone would lie about goings on or try to make out like we don't welcome trade. Only thing I can think of is someone doesn't want the competition. We don't have high taxes like many of the other docks. Our fees are among the lowest around, and the quality of our service is equal to any of the docks in the Core Worlds. This guy, the scientist - he wasn't here. I doubt he even wrote the report. Sounds to me like someone is trying to discourage scientists from coming here. Sounds to me like someone wants to keep this moon closed off, and the only reason for that is, there is something here they want for themselves. Can't blame them for that. Hell, I wouldn't mind having some of what I see pass through here. ".
Local residents have expressed shock and disbelief at the reports of the the attack. Comments range from "My children play out on the docks all the time. Nothing like this has ever happened, and frankly I don't believe it" to "What do you expect, with so many people coming and going. Someone probably had a disagreement, lost some coin and now wants to blame it on an attack.".
The Dragon's Egg Community Council wishes to reaffirm that not only are they in full compliance with the Open Borders welcoming policy, they actively seek new markets and opportunities. Speaking on behalf of the Council, Shepherd Liam Moorsider told us "We don't take harassment of outworlders lightly. This Council exists to address any of this type of thing, should it occur. If anyone has any evidence of unprovoked violence on anyone visiting our ports, they need only bring it to the Church here. Our Council meetings are open to the public. ".
A follow up investigation into the reasons for the filing of the false report is underway.
